Marillion is coming!

Well, I ripped this from Marillion's website - act now, please!

After what seems like an AGE to us (and you too, no doubt!) we have decided on the songs which will comprise our next album and we can tell you that the next Marillion album will be titled...

SOUNDS THAT CAN'T BE MADE

Backing tracks are already finished and we're now at the overdub stage (or "the colouring-in"). We have song titles too, but we'll wait just a little longer before announcing those.

We are planning to create exclusive Special Editions of ’Sounds That Can’t Be Made’ which we'll be making available as a PRE-ORDER directly from us through marillion.com

Following the success of previous pre-orders, we plan to make 2 different versions available:

Option 1: Deluxe Campaign Collectors CD Edition
This version will include 128 pages of artwork & lyrics presented in a deluxe hard back book. This collectors edition will also contain an extra DVD disc featuring interviews with the band and a selection of tracks performed live at the Racket Club; all filmed during various stages of the making of the album.

Option 2: The Standard 1CD Release
This version will be a 1CD Jewel case version of the album containing song lyrics & condensed album artwork.

When will it be released? What will be on it? When can I order? What about a tour?

Just like previous pre-orders, we have set up a page on our website to answer all of these questions, and will continue to add to the list as we receive feedback from you by email and on our Forum/Facebook pages.

What we CAN tell you though, is that we expect the album to be ready sometime before September 2012 (we can't set a firm release date as our creative process doesn't always run to a timetable..) with an extensive tour planned throughout 2012 and into 2013.

From the US onwards we will perform occasional "2 nighters". These shows will have a completely different set-list across each of the 2 nights. This will happen in the following towns:
New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Amsterdam, Paris, Milan and Barcelona

We have also announced the 2013 dates for our bi-annual Marillion Weekends in Holland, Montreal and the UK!

Marillion - This Strange Engine

Vuoden 1997 Marillion albumi "This Strange Engine" sisältää mainion "Estonia" -biisin, jonka bändin laulaja Steve Hogarth kirjoitti tavattuaan laivalta pelastuneen britin. Singleinä julkaistiin "Man of a Thousand Faces", "80 Days" ja "Memory of Water".

Tämä albumi on perus-Marillionia, musiikkia erityisesti progen ystäville, mutta samalla sopivaa kaikille muillekin. Mitään hittiaineksia eivät bändin levytykset ole enää 1980-luvun lopun jälkeen tarjonneet, mutta onhan meillä niitä varten muita kokoonpanoja. Marillionin kanssa viihtyy pidempäänkin, sillä he malttavat kehitellä ideoitaan eivätkä mene joka kerta aidan yli sen matalimmasta kohdasta.

Muutamia vuosia myöhemmin ilmestyi kauppojen alelaareihin "Tales from the Engine Room", joka oli remix-albumi This Strange Enginestä. Herrat Mitchell ja Daghorn "Positive Lightista" olivat tämän neronleimauksen takana. Vaikka kappaleet ovat samat kuin alkuperäisellä levyllä, saa tämä viritelmä minulta luonnehdinnan "turha". Kun en muutenkaan ole erilaisten uudelleen miksausten suurkuluttaja, niin tällä kertaa homma tuntuu todella tarpeettomalta. Levy ei ole edes sen kahden euron arvoinen, mitä siitä tuli aikanaan maksettua.


Ja ei, en kaipaa Fishiä - hänestä puhuminen myöhempien aikojen Marillionin yhteydessä on tuiki tarpeetonta sekin. Mies pärjää omillaan upeasti eikä kumpikaan osapuoli tarvitse toistaan.

Mitäs ihmettä ne nämä biisit ovat ja vielä tuollaisella teletappimaisella kannella? No tietysti Marillionin fanien rahoittama albumi, joka ilmestyi 2001. Jos olit niiden älykkäiden joukossa, jotka maksoivat levyn ennakkoon, sait upean tupla-CD-version ja sisäpussista saattoi löytyä oma nimesi. Reilut 12000 diggaria osti todellakin Anoraknophobian etukäteen, mutta allekirjoittanut tyytyi nappaamaan oman kappaleensa kasettina marketin poistomyynnistä parilla eurolla.

Marillionin musiikki on älykästä ja maanläheistä progea. Miehet ovat tehneet yksissä kaikki kipaleet ja nämä ovatkin kovin kollektiivista musisointia. Turha näitä on eritellä sen kummemmin, mutta "This is the 21st Century" on kyllä omasta mielestäni albumin paras biisi!

Marillion - Tales from the Engine Room

Tales From The Engine Room is a remix of This Strange Engine with a few exceptions and one extra addition. It was conducted by Marc Mitchell and Mark Daghorn of Positive Light. Both Marillion fans, they approached the band with this remix of the previous record. The remix album was still in the rough stages, but they asked the band for permission to complete and release it. The band were delighted at what they heard and gladly gave them the green light to complete the project.

A single was released prior to the release for the club scene, Memory of Water.

It was released on Eagle Records.

I recently bought this one - without noticing that it was a remix album. I paid something 2 or 3 euros. Cheap? No, it aint cheap, its worthless album. It gives no pleasure to Marillion fan like me. Its mainly boring....Mr. Daghorn and Mr. Mitchell may be famous but I dont understand this kind of remixing.
